In the early Church there were confession boxes, and today the Catholics still practice confession as far as I am aware, yet stand to be corrected.
If we look into the scriptures we will see that the act of confessing one to another as well as confession to the Lord is a biblical principle. Let’s look at the following scriptures for instance.
Psalms 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
For this reason, covering your sins will never erase it, confessing it will cause it to be forgiven. Attempting to cover our sins whether past or present just makes us nothing more than a liar.
If we cannot reference where we were to where we are now then how can we shew forth the glory of the Lord in our lives regarding our development, and transformation? We won’t! Hence the reason why I cannot understand why people don’t like talking about their past.
Our past has a lot to do with our present, because we have matured from one level in life to another and a lot has changed around us, propelling us into who we are today and by the grace of our Lord and savior.
It is my firm belief that someone who covers their past has not yet been made whole concerning the area where they still feel shame and are afraid of discussing it, not wanting to face ridicule. When you are truly delivered from your sinful ways regarding a particular habit, you will be able to look back and laugh with ease, and in so doing, help others, I speak from experience. Therefore, nobody can judge us for things that we already repented and confessed before our Lord, and in trying to do so they will be brought into judgement at the hand of God.
There is so much power in confessions, which is why confessing Jesus as our Lord and saviour can cause us to be redeemed. The following scriptures confirm the same.
1 John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.
Additionally, we have to be careful what we use our mouth to confess and refrain from negativity.
Confessions are covenant so carefully confess the right things in the right spaces, in Jesus name.
